About Karen Footman
I am a Life & Career Mentor. I am passionate about empowering the professional woman to stop striving and succeed without struggling. I am committed to bridging the gap between her big heart, her desire to make life better for herself and others, and her could-be-more-fun-and-fulfilling career.
Do you have a vision to be successful in your work, a desire make a difference and live a rich & balanced life? I did. However, I could not deny feeling restless. I ‘managed it’ by being ‘realistic’, put on a brave face and hid behind a tough shell, until my instincts drove me to do something about it.
I’m from Yorkshire, and I learned from my family experience that ordinary life was rough, resources were limited and rewards were earned. I grew up with low expectations of life. Security was more valuable than imagination, so I became reluctantly invulnerable, worked hard and headed for a corporate career.
I went to Manchester University, got a 2:1 degree in Economics and gained a place as a graduate at Land Rover in Human Resources. Enthused to contribute and inspired to improve the quality of life in business, I flourished and accelerated within 5 years to Senior HR Management within the BMW group.
Acknowledging my gift for communication and engaging people, I was sought out to take on specialist new role at Lloydspharmacy/AAH Pharmaceuticals (Pharma Retail & Wholesale). I loved creating something from nothing, and my success led to extensive European travel & international assignments at Board level, supporting Group Business Strategy.
By the age of 30, I was Head of HR. I realized I was out of my ‘gift zone’ and risked becoming defined by my position. I gave my best and delivered huge projects, but I became disheartened: fed-up with the politics and values conflicts that typify business life and kill motivation, including mine. There had to be more to life than this
I yearned to create my life, my way, in my own adventure with what’s important to me at the core – especially my Husband and daughter. Trusting my instincts, I mustered the courage in 2002 to leave my job and set up independently from my kitchen table, helping others to grow themselves, their businesses and teams to clear blocks, find expression, and resolve challenges by being creative and communicative. (My corporate clients include: Virgin, National Grid Transco, Legal & General, Bovis Lendlease and LaSer UK). Since 2006 I have specialized in developing professional women, on a one to one basis and in groups, being first to teach ANLP Accredited NLP Practitioner programmes to women-only in the UK. In 2010 I was nominated for a national ‘Women on their Way’ award for my outstanding contribution to Womens’ Personal Development.
In 2011 I launched the ‘School for Heroines’ – functioning as a Circle of Resources where grown up women find freedom; to cluster, to enjoy being related, helpful, connected, together, creative. As Mentor to the Circle I am co-creating my vision to establish The School’s learning resources, its community and in personally engaging with those, including you, who reach out for support, formally and informally. 2011 also saw the first Heroines Mysterymind group – a rapid transformation circle mentored by myself, which has served as a platform for some outstanding women to experience extraordinary results.
2012 will see an expansion of Personal & Group learning resources that School for Heroines offers – including a second Heroines Mysterymind, video ezine, topical webinars, teleseminars, live events & an expanding on-line community buzz!

Karen's Family
Everything I do is built around acknowledging and expressing what’s important to me: especially being the wife and Mum that I want to be. I want this for you too.
Having experienced many challenges and distractions on my creative path, I have invested heavily in a range of mentors to keep me creatively focused and inspired. Now I mentor others to overcome that restlessness, through a 10-Key Process I’ve designed to Revitalise, Refocus and Rebalance your Self. Clients I work with, resiliently make the leap they desire into a new role or embrace fresh approaches to an existing role. They are resourced to release their creativity and self expression so that they experience a whole new level of results at work and throughout the rest of their life.
Are you inspired? I’m very excited about what’s possible for you. Are you willing to connect? As your Mentor, I want to invite you to have the courage to face the truth of where you are, to be willing to get creative – and collaborate too…You can start today, using the 5 Step E-Learning Experience I’ve created that you can access now. Do share your comments and your questions… that’s what School for Heroines is all about. As we grow bold together, gracefully, we enrich our lives and those of others too.
